PV Comets Premier League - Open Reserves

reservegroup.jpg

The Reserves start the season with a few new faces. With Janelle being promoted to the firsts for an excellent Autumn season the center position is up for grabs. We finished 5th last season and the aim is to better that and make the finals. Go Team!

About the coach.... Ciara Thompson
I started playing netball when I was 7 years old in Craigieburn. Like all kids I was extremely versatile and played in every position on the court. By the time I was 13 my position became goals.
When I was 15 years old I played rep netball for Craigieburn and was trained by David an Australians Men’s representative. I still remember his name because he was such a good player and coach and he taught me a lot about netball. When I was 16 years old I tagged along with a friend to ‘tryouts’ for a state league club called East Keilor. To my surprise I made the 17 and under team and that is when I started playing state league. The 17 and under team was coached by another great Brenda, who went on to coach the AIS Darters in the National league. East Keilor later merged with Brimbank and I moved into the Open division.
It was as an Open player I won the division 5 state league MVP, one of the high lights of my netball. After 5 years with Brimbank also coached by a State league coach Scott, I changed clubs and played for Northern Panthers. A few years later I left Northern Panthers to start a new club that didn’t involve all the politics netball can bring.

I was one of the founding members of the PV Comets Senior Netball Association, so I have been with the club for over 8 years. In this time I have represented the PV Comets in the division 1 team and won 2 premierships, coached the 17 and under to a grand final berth in division 2 and am currently coaching the Open Reserve team. I am passionate about netball and just love this club and the people in it.

This season my aim as the reserve coach is to use the 11 week season as the pre season for 2010. I am going to get all my players fit and strong, ready to take on the challenge of winning the division 4 premiership in 2010.

Match Reports
Round 1
Comets V Heights
We lost 17 - 32
This week the purpose was for everyone in the team to get a run. All 10 players took the court and it gave me the chance to see what each individual was capable of.
Did this come at the cost of the 4 points?... Perhaps

Round 3
PV Comets V St Albans
We Lost
We just can’t seem to get it together. We are sitting on 3 losses and no one feels good about it. Our skills don’t just disappear we are just feeling a little uncertain and lost.
Don’t despair girls, we just need to work harder at training and fix all those things you individually identified as the ‘problem’.
Focus at training this week:We will have several circuits around the court focussing in driving, dodging, movement, reaction time, passing, jumping, shooting and defending.

3  Hannah for a really strong half in WD. You kept at it and got your hands to several balls.
2  Kendall although I was a little disappointed in your 3rd quarter the first half you showed determination, leadership and team spirit.
1 Loz in GD you kept at it. Your speed is outstanding, it the body work that needs some attention.

ROUND 4
Eastside   38   v PV Comets  22
Well I thought we were going to drop our heads & get thumped but u all kept going. We were down 6 to 1 & u guys bought it back to 3 down at quarter time. Unfortunately they blew the win out in the last quarter because of our bad leads, passing & other silly mistakes which were due to tiredness in a lot of our players. We especially need to work on bringing the ball out of defence. Bodily, they were very strong as well & we need to step it up to these teams.
Goalers: Sarah & Molly did well but we needed to get the ball into them more. Sarah u went off your goals at one stage but well done for passing it off to Molly & working it in until u got your confidence back & the goals started to drop again. Molly great game. U offer well all over the court - too far down the court at times but we will work on that! U shot well & defended well the whole game.

Centre court: Jess, Sonia, Tash, Loz & Hannah. Jess u ripped it up tonight especially in WA. You played well the whole game. It took a while to adapt to the different way Loz played C but when u worked out how to read her u stepped back up again. Sonia & Tash first of all thanks for being so supportive of the team. Unfortunately u both only got a quarter at a 10:15 match  - sorry. Tash we need to work on your feet & confidence in your leads. The leads r normally good but not run through or u pull out completely. Sonia I thought you need to be tighter on your player but I was happy to put you back on but Jess Loz & Hannah were playing really well. Loz I think u played well especially in WD. In C you forgot to look for your other players & cut them off esp. your WA. I think with some training & direction C would be an option for u. Hannah u did all that was asked of u & those arms - god only knows how those balls get into your hands but they do. We need to work on that first lead for the GK to get the ball back into play. We need to be leading forward not backwards.
Defenders: Kendall & Carly. Good game off both of you. Kendall u stepped up into the GS when asked to. As she was extremely tall it  made it difficult for rebounds & when they lobbed it in. When u stepped it up to her they had more difficulty getting the ball to her & we pulled in more rebounds. Carly you worked well with kendall to shut down the tall shooter. We just need to work on the defence getting the ball safely down the court. Too much running away not forward to the ball.

ROUND  5
P P Central Links  25 V PV Comets 19

Overall a better game had by all this week. We kept with them most of the game but let them take off again in the last quarter. We did miss Jess who got to have run in the firsts - well done jess.
Goalers: Molly good game especially with your leading & shooting - but once again leads r going too far down the court, we will keep working on this. Sarah those goals at one stage just would not drop but to your credit u did well after sitting off a quarter - u got straight back into the game leading better & the goals dropped. T you moved well in goals but unfortunately they just would not drop. In WA u lead well but we just need to work on your passes- I think u r passing to where u think your player should be going but unfortunately they r not going there. Maybe just a little bit more time to read players better. In C even though u were nervous u lead well & offer a very strong lead always. Only 1 bad pass - can't complain about that!!

Centre court: Sonia what a ripper you had in C. Your fitness has improved & hopefully will continue to do so as we would have liked to have left u in C for at least another quarter. You offered stability & good leads especially in the goal third. U were also patient throwing into  our goalers which is what we need more of. Hannah I think I commented on how you get your hands to balls that don't seem to be any where in your reach - keep up the good work. Tash a much better game this week. In WD u did exactly what Janelle asked & stuck close & got your hands up over all the balls. We still need to work on fitness & having confidence in your leads but better footwork this week. Tess WD & WA. U stepped up fantastically from the 17's you offered great leads in both positions - good passing into the circle as WA, we just need to work on u using the circle a bit more to your advantage - overall great game.

Defenders: What a great job you both did - Kendall & Carly. You stepped up & put it to the goalers communicating well & therefore taking a lot of intercepts. Especially u Kendall - u took some excellent intercepts. We just need to now work on keeping the turnover safe & not throwing it straight away. Be patient after taking the intercept & give players a chance to make a good lead to throw to.

Round  6
PV Comets 20 v DC Force 29
Well this week I will keep it short as Janelle's positional talks post the game were spot on and gave individual things for all you to work on. I would like to just say that we all need to focus on our passing strength & options at training. Also we need to start to put some body & determination back into our game.
